Local News

The peace of the village today is a far cry from the reputed 18th Century Battle of Milford Green between smugglers and the militia. The Village Green now is well used for local events such as fetes and a pumpkin competition. On May Day you can see the crowning of the May Queen and maypole dancing. At the beginning of July Milford Flower Show is held not far away in the Church Hall. On August Bank Holiday Saturday the Green is the focus for one of the best carnivals in Hampshire. Come and enjoy the procession and dance in the High Street in the evening.

A walk up Church Hill from the Village Green brings you to the Norman church of All Saints. Like most village churches it has seen alterations over hundreds of years but much of it is 13th Century. There are memorials here to the Cornwallis West family, local landowners in the 19th Century, and in the north-west window of the chancel is a stained glass panel showing Charles I, who was in imprisoned nearby in Hurst Castle.

From the car park in the village centre enthusiastic walkers will find the start of the Solent Way, which goes from Milford-on-Sea to Emsworth on the Sussex border, a distance of 60 miles.

For less dedicated walkers there are many well managed and varied footpaths through woodland alongside the Danestream (according to legend named after a bloody battle) and through fields around the village. There is a larger scale map of these on the Visitor Information Panel in the car park and a copy is available from the Parish Office in Park Road (open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10.12am).
